Bubble talk grows as Anthropic's IPO gets close

Anthropic's IPO, its first sale of shares to the public, is approaching. The AI Daily Brief podcast looked at the most worrying bubble signals. They include GPUs sitting in warehouses, shaky data center debt, and revenue concentrated among venture-backed startups.

Other signals point the other way. A Reddit report says AWS AI cloud capacity is sold out through 2027, with 2028 filling fast. Intel's B60 to B70 graphics cards jumped about 30% in price in one day, according to one tracker. Anthropic also struck a deal to launch a European consultancy, reports the Financial Times.

The Transformer newsletter adds that some AI safety advocates are now turning on Anthropic. The IPO will put the company's safety promises under new pressure from shareholders.

Why it matters

Huge demand and huge debt can exist at the same time. If the bubble pops, workers, pensions and energy bills could feel it, not only investors.
