Anthropic's revised IPO filing: $17B a quarter, $895B in commitments

Follow-up to Tuesday Oct 27: Anthropic files to go public, with about 100 pages of risks

Remember last Tuesday's token on Anthropic's IPO filing? Anthropic has now filed a revised S-1, the document a company must publish before selling shares. CNBC reports $17 billion in revenue for the third quarter and $895 billion in commitments. The FT puts the AI spending commitments at about $900 billion.

Other numbers get attention. Business Insider reports that Anthropic's internal use of its own AI, counted at retail prices, now costs more than its employee pay. A blog post titled 'Anthropic's growth just flattened' got 210 points on Hacker News, but it is one writer's analysis.

The strongest reaction is a TechPolicy Press op-ed: the SEC should block the IPO to protect the public. It got 351 points. That is an opinion, not a regulator's decision.

Why it matters

Credit where it is due: this filing puts real numbers in public. But $895 billion in commitments is enormous pressure. When shareholders want growth every quarter, who wins the day safety asks to slow down?
